Position Description: Construction Supervisor Part time
Job Description:
Responsible for the supervision of all new construction, remodeling, repair or renovation of homes or other assigned projects undertaken by Mitchell-Yancey Habitat for Humanity.
Reports to: Construction Committee and Board of Directors
Collaborates with: Construction Committee, Volunteer Coordinator and Bookkeeper
Responsibilities include:
Working with the Construction Committee
● Identify and evaluate the appropriateness of potential home sites and the suitability for the affiliate’s basic house plan. ● Oversee the entire building process, including project budgets, schedules, building sites, materials procurement and coordination of contractors. ● Maintain a construction schedule for each project. ● Submit an oral or written construction status report monthly to the committee. ● Obtain budget approval prior to the expenditure of funds or contracting with a subcontractor that exceeds the established budget. ● Attend committee meetings throughout the building project.

Managing Construction
● Demonstrate knowledge about and management of residential construction. ● Be on the job site at key times, such as when volunteers or subcontractors are on site. ● Ensure that the proper materials and services are on site and necessary tools available for specific tasks. ● Assure all permits are pulled. ● Oversee the construction schedule. ● Recommend the ordering of bulk materials when appropriate. ● Develop competence in and implement energy efficient construction techniques. ● Know and assure the proper care of materials, tools, and stored items.

Working with Volunteers
● Work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to recruit volunteer labor. ● Provide on-the-job training and supervision for semi-skilled and unskilled volunteers. ● Teach crew members proper construction techniques and patiently answer questions. ● Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to identify potential crew leaders and other skilled workers. ● Maintain quality volunteers able to perform tasks that require a high level of skill, and utilize these competencies to perform construction tasks in order to keep building costs as low as possible. ● Schedule each workday with appropriately sized crews. ● Maintain a site log. ● After closing, correct any problems in materials or workmanship in a timely manner.

Communication and Collaboration
● Serve as the primary construction contact for the Habitat staff, board, and committees. ● Have a thorough understanding of Habitat’s programs and commitment to partnership, and be able to communicate this to volunteers, construction professionals and partner families. ● Work with the Bookkeeper to provide receipts and log expenses with the affiliate coding system on all purchases and subcontractor pay.

Safety
● Assure construction site safety with personal protection equipment, protective measures, pacing workers, providing water, watching for heat problems, etc. ● Maintain and keep accessible a fire extinguisher, first aid kit and hand washing station. ● Conduct safety briefings for all volunteers as needed before beginning a workday.
