Founded in 1992, Mitchell-Yancey Habitat for Humanity builds homes, community, and hope. Through Habitat's homeownership and home repair programs, many families in Mitchell and Yancey counties have achieved the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build a better future. A decent place to call home with an affordable mortgage enables Habitat homeowners to save more, invest in education, pursue opportunities and have greater financial stability.
The cost of the houses is kept low by volunteers who provide labor, individual and corporate sponsors who donate money and materials, and partner families that invest hundreds of hours of work, their - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others.
The mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses. We currently engage in building one home at a time, with a goal of expanding to two homes a year.
You are welcome at our board meetings held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM. Normally held at the Messiah of the Mountains Lutheran Church on Hwy 19E in Micaville, NC., some of our meetings are held on Zoom. Contact us if you wish to attend.
