Habitat Seeks Family Applicants for New Homes in Yancey County

Mitchell-Yancey Habitat for Humanity is now seeking family applicants for two new 3-bedroom homes under construction in Yancey County. These 1200 square foot homes are located in the new Habitat for Humanity neighborhood at Celo and Longview Streets in Burnsville. Both homes are projected for completion at the end of 2014. The monthly mortgage payments for these homes will be approximately $487-$500 per month. This payment includes land taxes and homeowner’s insurance costs.

Are you are currently living in inadequate housing or need a better place to live, but cannot afford higher rents or get a mortgage from a bank? Habitat invites you to learn more about our homes and application process. We seek partner families who:

have incomes between $20,000 and $45,000 depending on family size,

are able to pay a monthly no-interest mortgage of approximately $487 - $500, and

are also willing and able to work with Habitat to build the home.

 

Habitat does not give away free homes. We work together with community volunteers, businesses, and our partner families to build a home. In addition, we provide classes in handling household finances, caring and maintaining you new home, and creating positive relations with your neighbors. Since 1992, Mitchell-Yancey Habitat for Humanity has been building homes and changing lives. Currently there are 23 Habitat homes in our counties. We now seek new families for our first Habitat neighborhood in Burnsville.

 

Applicants are required to do the following:

By February 1st , call Misty at the Mitchell-Yancey Habitat Office at (828) 766-9000 to register to attend a Habitat Partner Family Informational Meeting. You will be asked to provide phone and address contact information.

Register with Misty to attend one of the following meetings at 6:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church located at 120 Church Street in Burnsville:

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11 OR THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13.

 

Family applicants will need to bring the following informational materials to the meeting:

Income most current Federal 1040 Tax Forms and most current end of month pay stubs.

Employment – contact name, address, & phone of current or past employer(s).

Housing – contact name, address, and phone of current landlord.

Financial support–reports showing the amount of child support, food stamps, or other subsidies and/or information on where the family receives money.

Monthly expenses- copies of recent bills for electricity, heat, home and cell phones, TV service, car payments and insurance, credit cards, and any other expenses for the family.

 

A Habitat Family Selection committee member will meet with you at this meeting and review your information and let you know if your family is an eligible applicant for a Habitat home. We strongly encourage interested families to apply and look forward to meeting and working with you.
